History of the Course
It was in 1984, at the proposal of the Municipality represented by Messrs FLEURIOT, GALOPIN and LANDEGREN, that the sports association 'Golf de Vire' was created - chaired by Mr. Jean-Yves BOUDIER, helped by a handful of golf loving volunteers.
Today's beautiful 18 hole course is recognized and appreciated by all golfers. The journey to its achievement was long, and not always easy, and was accomplished by successive steps: -
On Sundays, back in 1984, the driving range became a mini 5 hole course.
Two years later in 1986, a compact 6-hole course was augmented to become a 9-hole facility by 1989, with 2 mobile homes serving as a clubhouse.
It was in 1991 that work started on the creation of a full size "9 Holes", following the contours of Lake Dathée and extending over 30 hectares.
In December 1993, approval of the French Golf Federation was obtained.
The current clubhouse was very rapidly restored in 2001, led by the second President, Thierry VAN NEDERVELDE, and it was officially 'opened' in March 2002.
Thanks to the elected officials of the city of Vire and in particular its then MP and Mayor Jean Yves COUSIN, together with Messrs EDDY and BERAS, the proposed extension of the "18 Holes" was planned under the chairmanship of Thierry VAN NEDERVELDE. Construction was carried out in two phases under the chairmanship of Alain GAUTIER: the first phase opened in June 2008 and the second in September of the same year.
Today we are proud to welcome all golfers to a course that, like a good wine, improves as it matures!
